Tracking Mileage and Receipts RRS feed

  • Question

  • I think this is an easy one but I'm trying to track mileage and little receipts (office supplies purchased, meals on the road) in Microsoft Project because they'll be reimbursed by our sponsor.  I know I could keep it seperately in a MS Excel spreadsheet but... best way to record keep in MS Project?  Thanks in advance.  I am a newbie so apologies for this basic question.

  • Nope... It's been asked many times.  Nothing out of the box.   Perhaps a 3rd party add-in.

Its possible to setup cost budgets and applying costs, but for the kind of details that you probably want, it will be more work than its worth the trouble.

  • Thanks!  Follow up question. I know it's not designed for such a task but is there a good place in MS Project or ProjectLibre to stash an Excel Spreadsheet with mileage and costs?  I don't need Project to do anything with the info as much as I just want to keep the info in one place.  Thanks in advance.

  • Hello,

In the past we have built such applications in Project Online. You could keep it simple and build a simple UI (SPFx / SP add-in etc.) that just stored the data in SharePoint lists, either centrally in the PWA site or on the associated Project Site or store this data in another type of storage such as Azure SQL DB. We have also done work in the past to work with well known expense applications and surface some of the Project Online data in these applications for uses to select the project from a list of projects they have recently worked on etc.
