"Group By" not calculating formulae

    Question

  • I saw the thread as far back as 2 1/2 years ago, but it is still occurring, even with latest updates. When using a formula in a custom field, I click on "Use Formula" for the group by. It was working fine in Project 2010, but does not work in 2013. Have you heard anything or does this still exist for others?

    Regards, Ray Flowers

  • Ismet,

You're welcome, hope the upcoming fix resolves both issues.

Testing the above scenario with MS Project 2016 desktop edition, updated with the latest public update reveals that the issue mentioned on the topic of this thread is no longer an issue with the product, as it is seen in the task table screenshot below:

Number1's formula [Number2] * 2 returns the calculated result to the group summary line. If I experience any issues with the other custom fields using formulas on the group headers, I will post it.

  • Ray,

I've seen your other two posts on the same subject:

As of version 2010, the formula feature is no longer functioning in the group summary lines as it was in the version 2007. My suggestion is that either use only roll-up options or continue to work with the older versions (side by side installation is possible). I am not sure whether it is considered as a bug or not. These are my comments as others may not agree.

  • According to its KB article, the January 2nd, 2018 update for Project 2016 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4011633/january-2-2018-update-for-project-2016-kb4011633) fixes the following issue:

    • The grouping rows that are applied to Gantt views in projects may not display values for given fields that have formula calculations.

This is a simple schedule (Project 2016) with no updates:

Number2's formula is 1, its roll-up option is "Sum".

Number1's formula is [Number2]*2 and its roll-up option is "Use formula".

This one is a screenshot after having applied the update:

Yes, I can now see some results in Number1's group summary rows, but not quite what I expected. This is the screenshot from Project 2007:

I don't think it is working. But maybe I am doing something wrong ?
