Set merge field not working RRS feed

  • I am trying to import from Excel into MS Project using the merge data into active project option. I have selected a numeric field using the Set Merge Key button, but when I try to proceed, I repeatedly get an error message:

    A primary key must be specified in order to merge data into an existing project (see screenshot).

    I have also tried importing into a new project - this gives me an error stating the sheet name must be specified, even though the correct sheet name (Sheet1) has been selected.

    I am running a downloaded trial version of MS Project Professional 2016 together with MS Office 365 ProPlus. I'd assumed the Office version was 64-bit, but Project insisted it was the 32-bit version.
