Two files on two separate monitors

    Question

  •  I have two separate Project files that I need to compare and I would like to have one on one screen and the second file on a separate screen like can be done in excel. Is that possible with Project

  • Yes. You can extend the main Project window and display two separate mpp files simultaneously, each one on either screen of a dual screen configuration, but you cannot open two separate instances of the same mpp file.

  • But let's be very clear, you cannot have two separate instances of Project running like you can for Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.  These apps can be opened multiple times, Project can only be opened once.

    Are you aware that Project has a utility called "Compare Projects" found on the Reports group of the Project ribbon? As long as the two files are genetically related, (i.e. one was created from the other such as a later version of the same file), it works very well and doesn't require two monitors.
