Can I stop a resource from creating new task for an Active project RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

We are using Project Server 2010 SEM. Resources can create, Assign themselves to a task or insert a task for a project.

Our PM's are demanding that a resource should not be able to create tasks on a live project. The resource may have entered Actuals in that project.

  • Hi Amit,

Try unchecking the "new task assignment" in the team member security group permissions.

    See reference below:

    Hope this helps.

  • The resource is actually working on multiple projects. I want to restrict the resource from entering into a particular project

  • Hi Amit,

You can try using the project permissions.

Here is an article which explains about project permissions.

  • Hi Amit,

If the resource is assigned to the project, isn't normal that it  can enter actual on it?

In case you want to prevent the users tu use the "add rows" features in the timesheet ribbon, you can customize the ribbon to grey out the button.

    See reference below:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg549101.aspx#pj14_ModifyPWARibbon_TimesheetRibbon

    Hope this helps.

  • As other have pointed out,  this may be(haven't tested) achieved thorough security permissions, by assigning specific category with specific project to users and within that category users will not have create task / relevant permissions

But given that it is only for one project, as managing/maintaining security is quite a tedious job i would suggest it to be addressed by business process for eg. could be made a training awareness and specific resources could be trained to not add task to the project rather than trying to do a complete security thing
