What is Default Web Port used by WSUS Server on a win 2012 R2 server.

  •  I installed  all WSUS defaults  and Not custom and was expecting  the clients to reach the server by defining in group policy the location of WSUS server to be : http:/MLAdm    but no clients are showing up on this WSUS server...  These clients all show up  fine in the computer group on our old WSUS server which is on a win 2008 R2 server which I know is operating on port 80..

I've seen some people reference TCPIP port 8530 as being a candidate  but I thought that was if you said to do custom install..

Not sure why I can find any clear documentation on this.. This is a very basic thing  and if its now on 8530 port by default that is something that should be clearly defined in the how to use group policy to connect a WSUS server documentation

Can some one  clue me  on the what the default is?

At this point I am going to take the WSUS computer option out of using group policy and then take a Non group policied machine and point it to http://MLAdm:8530 and see if I can get at least one PC to show up in the computer groups..

  • There's a note in the following link.

"By default, in Windows Server 2012, WSUS 4.0 uses port 8530. However, WSUS 3.0 uses port 80, by default."

Do note that Server 2012 WSUS is actually version 6.2, and WSUS on Server 2012R2 is version 6.3 (I believe).

  • Thanks.. I updated our GP with the 8530 and pushed it out and they all appeared.

I do see the note you pointed out. I swear the documentation I was reading had a similar not but specified that port was only chosen if it was a custom install.. But maybe I was linking in to an older version..

    Thanks for the clarification

  • Correct. We're working on updating the documentation to make it clearer and crisper. The updated documentation should appear on TechNet within the next week or so. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
