Erro 0x80070002 ao atualizar na página microsoft update

Olá pessoal.
Estou com um caso na technet em inglês mas não consegui solucioná-lo.
Tenho lá 2 threads :

O último erro que persiste á a mensagem no microsoft update de erro 0x80070002 ao tentar atualizar o windows. O office foi atualizado, e as seguintes tentativas já foram feitas :
1) Executei MIcrosoftFixit.wu.LB de http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336/pt-br, e recebi a mensagem que o erro 0x80070003 foi consertado, mas ao tentar atualizar pelo Microsoft Update site, continuo a receber a mensagem de erro 0x80070002.
2) Renomeei C:\Windows\SotwareDistribution to old.
3) Desisntalei manualmente kb2879017 e kb2898785 e não cnsigo mais reinstala-las, recebo a mensagem que o sistema não conseguiu localizar o arquivo especicificado.

Existem vários vírus que causam este tipo de comportamento em especial o Conficker.
Eles modificam várias configurações do seu sistema operacional que empedem as atualizações justamente para que estas não atrapalhem o seu funcionamento.
Eu sugiro que antes que você continue você faça uma verificação de vírus muito apurada se possível com mais de um antivirus.

Após ter certeza que o seu sistema está limpo tente usar as ferramentas de reparo automático da microsoft são muito eficientes, é so selecionar a opção windows e depois "Diagnosticar e corrigir o Windows Update que não está funcionando"

Antigamente existia uma versão para download dessas correções mas acho que tiraram do ar pois não consegui encontrar.

Prezados, obrigado pela ajuda e me desculpem na demora mas não sei porque não recebi o alerta das respostas.
A máquina apresentava diversos problemas e vírus era uma causa provável, e por isso, já havia executado há 10 dias atrás o Kaspersky Removal Tool e o Malware Antimalware, e depois corrigi o problema do serviço BITS, do svchost consumindo 100% de CPU, e o erro 0x80070005 do Mircrosoft Update.
Executei a ação recomendada no tópico indicado pelo Edinaldo, mas a máquina voltou ao estado original do início deste tópico : alguns updates baixam com sucesso, outros falham, e no fim a instalação dos updates falham.
Segue abaixo o windows update log, apreciaria alguma ajuda.

Eu pude reparar que você está usando um computador DELL, por acaso você tem ou já teve instalado o software Dell assistant?
Esses erros 0x80070002 que você está tendo devem ser de momentos da instalação onde é necessário interação com alguns serviços do windows.
Tem alguns softwares que alteram o provedor de segurança padrão do windows e podem causar este tipo de problema, eu já vi isso acontecer com computadores dell mas não é só com eles, qualquer software que altere o provedor de segurança pode causar esse tipo de problema, se esse for o seu caso tente o seguinte procedimento:
- Inicie o computador. Pressione a tecla F8 durante a inicialização para iniciar o computador no Modo de segurança.
- Inicie o Editor do Registro (Regedt32.exe).
- Exclua as seguintes chaves do Registro no Registro do Windows:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\ProvidersHKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers
- Saia do Editor do Registro.
- Reinicie o computador.

Caro Leandro, obrigado pela assistência até o momento.
1) Não tenho o Dell Assistant, tenho o Dell PC Check UP e Dell System Detect, mas não os utilizei nesse caso.
2) Quanto ao provedor de segurança, me intriga é não receber a mensagem de erro de inicialização do Windows conforme o artigo microsoft. Vc acha que devo mesmo assim redefinir o provedor de segurança ?
3) Reparei a instalação do Office pela ferramenta de Diagnóstico de dentro o programa Excel, informou que alguns erros de instalação foram corrigidos, mas continuo sem poder atualizar. Vc acha que devo reparar com o disco de instalação ?
4) Sim, tenho o .Net Framework 1.1 instalado.

Desculpe eu estava um pouco com pressa ontem e não dei muitos detalhes, mesmo se o seu windows não estiver apontando essa mensagem na inicialização você pode executar esse procedimento.
Normalmente essas chaves de registro não existem, caso elas estejam presentes é indicação de que o provedor de segurança foi alterado.
Se elas existirem poste o conteúdo das chaves, para tentarmos identificar qual aplicação fez essa alteração.Seria melhor reparar com o disco de instalação ou talvez até reinstalar o Office, eu pedi para que você verificasse o office apenas pelo erro Handler FATAL: UH: 0x8024200b, mas ele não é o principal causador de você não conseguir atualizar.
Com relação ao .Net framework 1.1 tem uma certa polemica quanto a ele causar ou não alguns comportamentos inesperados e ou problemas de atualização, eu por via das dúvidas mantenho ele instalado apenas se ele for pré requisito para alguma aplicação, caso contrário eu sempre removo.

Prezado Leandro, as chaves do registro não existem ...
Reparei o Office com o CD de instalação.
Não tenho certeza se alguma aplicação exige o .Net framework 1.1, então prefiriria não desinstala-lo.
Alguma outra ideia ?
Um erro permanente que não consigo remover é o abaixo relatado, não acredito que esteja interligado, mas me impediu de restaurar a máquina para uma data anterior, sempre com a mesma mensagem do tipo "não houve alterações de sistema, o computador não foi restaurado."
