SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard - error on step 5-6/9 - "ServicesTask.InvokeServiceConstructor" service has failed with an unknown exception

Întrebare
-
I am installing a three-tier SharePoint 2010 infrastructure (1 MS-SQL server, 1 SharePoint application server, 1 Sharepoint web front end server).
The MS-SQL server is installed. Sharepoint is installed on the application and web front end servers. The next step is to run the SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard on the application server.
Unfortunately, I have a failure on step 5 (or 6 ?) of 9. I checked the event viewer (says unknow error - read log file) and log file (copy of the relevant part hereunder) but I cannot figure out what it means concerning the error. Thanks for any hint you could provide me.

Hi,
Your information says: Sharepoint 2010: Sharepoint Server 2010 SP1 (64-bits)
How did you install this.
In order to have SharePoitn Server 2010 SP1, you need to install the SharePoint Foundation SP1 bits and the SharePoint Server SP1 bits on your Application and Web Front End server. For more information, check this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/d30d9861-8e94-4410-8fe7-c165935f8722/

Thank both for the help.
Deleting the entry in the registry indeed solved the problem. I saw that similar problems were solved in this way but by lack of knowledge and confidence I was reluctant to do it before reading your answer.
I am still wondering why the entry is there if it was not supposed to be or why the script cannot just update the value.
@Nico: it is Sharepoint Server 2010 *Enterprise Edition* (°) SP1 (64 bits); I just mounted the .iso file I received from our Windows server team.
(°) was missing in my my initial post => completed it; sorry for the confusion
