  • I have configured a Two node cluster and both the servers are showing ACTIVE in the Cluster configuration. I want to configure it as ACTIVE & PASSIVE. What should be done to achieve this ?

  • Microsoft Failover clustering has always been Active/Active.  Active/Passive implies that only one node can actively be serving highly available resources - the 'passive' node is available only when the 'active' node fails. Microsoft Failover clustering allows for a cluster resource to run on any node of the cluster without the need for one node to fail.  In other words, you want both nodes to be active because you want the node not running a current resource available to take over at any time.  If one of the nodes is not listed as 'Active', that means that it is not available to accept resources should the other node fail.

  • Hi

Both the nodes will be active if they are working fine.

The services hosted on that cluster will be active on one node at a time. if the node fails then it moves the services to the other node. So for the service on which it is active will be the active node and the other one will be standby.

    Hope that makes it clear

    Bala N
