Advertised program is received but fails RRS feed

  • Вопрос

  • I am trying to run updates for several software packages. The one I'm having trouble with right now is Adobe Flash. I have created the package and the program, I've tested the command line on one of my test computers. It worked perfectly. I set up a test group of 2 laptops to advertise the program to. They both receive the program, but then it says that they failed, and the program never starts. How can I figure out what is wrong. I tried checking where the source file is coming from making sure that I put that in  correctly, but I can't find anything out of place. UAC is off on both computers. And i don't see anything in the execmgr.log file either.

    Any ideas?

Sorry, I meant to delete all the DPs from the package then re-add the DPs back after it's been deleted.   Removing the program wouldn't do anything.

Worst comes to worst, try creating the package again.  Do you enable binary replication?

When I test packages, normally I select Run from DP just to make sure hte command lines work.  Then for pilots I may use that option depending on the package size.

  • Probably not, I read somewhere that having it enabled can on some instances.  I have it enabled and have only encountered packages that didn't have it that had what you're describing, though rare too.

On the DP that the clients are downloading from, can check to see if there's any discrepancies between package folder on the DP vs the source files?

Are there the same # of files and are they same exact size?

  • UAC has nothing to do with a program failing in SCCM. Are running the install using the system account? What is the error thats being returned in SCCM?
    26 июля 2012 г. 20:46
  • Are you sure you don't get anything i the execmgr.log file? If you don't the advertisment has not tried to run on the client.

    26 июля 2012 г. 20:50
  • @Henrik - I know it hasn't tried to run on the client, that's the problem. Under advertisement status it shows the first column received and the second failures. I'm only pushing this out to 2 computers and a 2 shows in both columns. All the rest stay at 0.

@Justin - I can't find where there's an error to look at. Yes, I'm using the system account.

look at the execmgr log on the failing client, it should explain a bit more as to why it failed

  • Hey mike, are you looking at a report? If so what is the exit code that it is reporting?  Last have you run this package manually on one of these work station, without a silent switch?

Did you set a mandatory assignment on the advertisement? If it's staying at received that may be why is it in run advertised programs?

    26 июля 2012 г. 21:23
  • Did you check the Advertisement Status?

It should contain enough info before you even need to look at the client logs.

It could be the command line, can't locate the content on DP, etc.

    29 июля 2012 г. 3:58
  • @Justin - Yes I set a mandatory assignment for the advertisement. where is 'run advertised programs'?

@mikem1983 - no I'm not looking at a report I'm looking under system status at the advertisement status. Yes, I've run this package without the silent switch, then I uninstalled and re-ran with the silent switch to make sure I had the right one.

@SMS Marshall - I'll be checking the client logs in a minute and see what they say.

  • It looks like you need to refresh the DPs.  If that doesn't work, remove them from the DPs and add them back.

If the system gets a content mismatch it will not download the files, look on the client and in the ccm\cache directoy.  Do you see teh packageID folder and if there's any files in there?

  • Where would I look on the DP to find the files? I know where the source files are, and how many. does it matter how deep into the file system SCCM has to go to get the source file?

  • Hey Mike, Are you currently pushing any other packages through SCCM?

Take a look at this KB and see if any of these resolution steps help mike.

  • Under the Package, expand it to the distribution points and make sure the DP the clients use have it.

Go to System Status -> Package Status then navigate to the package and expand it.  Underneath will show you the status and the path that the package resides on whatever DP you added it to.

execmgr saying the content is not on the DP ... are these clients on a different subnet than the one you first tested with?

  • As a test Mike recreate the package\program, use source not so deep into the file system and see if you can assign it to a DP and monitor it's progress in the DistMgr log and Status Messages. Advertise this to your two Clients.

Very remote idea to check on would be to see if IIS Request Filtering feature is blocking files in the package from being downloaded.

    20 августа 2012 г. 10:35
  • Thanks for all the help, I finally got it to work. I recreated the program and enabled binary differential replication, and now it's working.
