Windows Server 2008 Update KB4516065 failed with 80092004 RRS feed

Answers

  • Hi Jay,

The error 0x80092004 is associated with the error code, CRYPT_E_NOT_FOUND, suggests that Windows Update rejects the updates because cryptographic values that the update packages contain are not found.

Try installing the following update first:

    KB4474419 -- SHA-2 code signing support update for Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008: August 13, 2019

    KB4490628 -- Servicing stack update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1: March 12, 2019

If one of the above update is not installed, SHA-2 signed updates won't be accepted and the error is thrown instead.

Once you have installed the KB4474419 for Windows Server 2008 or KB4490628 for Windows Server 2008 R2, try installing the other updates.

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • This update can not be applicable to 2008 server. Look in to below image,

Before installing this, you have to install below updates,

    Before installing this update

Microsoft strongly recommends that you install the updates listed below and restart your device before installing the latest Rollup. Installing these updates improves the reliability of the update process and mitigates potential issues while installing the Rollup.

    1. The latest servicing stack update (SSU) (KB4516655). If you are using Windows Update, the latest SSU will be offered to you automatically. To get the standalone package for the latest SSU, search for it in the Microsoft Update Catalog
    2. The latest SHA-2 update (KB4474419) released September 10, 2019. If you are using Windows Update, the latest SHA-2 update will be offered to you automatically. For more information on SHA-2 updates, see 2019 SHA-2 Code Signing Support requirement for Windows and WSUS.

  • Hi,

Yes, if we check the Windows 7 and Windows 08R2 update history, we could find It has a pre-installation requirement before installing this update. Please check the information in the link below:

    Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4516065

Meanwhile, if we want to download update and install it manually. We could download from Microsoft Update Catalog website. It is an official website.

  • Dear Leon,

Your patches solved my problem. I checked KB4474419 already installed and KB4490628 solved the update problem. I don't know KB4516655 (I tried it yesterday but it installed with failed) is really relevant or not but since it is not default included in windows update I will not tried to install it. I will mark your reply as an answer.

    Best Regards,

    Jay
