SCCM Deploying Office for mac RRS feed

  • I have setup sccm using it in my windows environment but now we are  beginning to get more and more macs so now we have mac labs so I've use profile manager but i can't do what i need to in profile manager what i'm trying an wanting to do . instead of logging in to each mac down loading office for mac 1 machine at a time .I saw some where that you can deploy using SCCM  


    any help would be appreciated

  • I would not recommend using native ConfigMgr/SCCM to perform MacOS management -- it's bare bones at best. If you want to use a Microsoft product to manage MacOS, then use Intune as note by kidmystic2. Note that this will still require someone logging into each system and enrolling it into Intune. There's no magic way to control a system without some type of local intervention to enable that control.

  • Right tool for the right job. Trying to manage MacOS will be a super-frustrating experience for many reasons including the need for a PKI and individual client auth certs for each MacOS system that require manual intervention to deploy. This along with adding an MP and DP to your infrastructure will add additional complexity and pain.

    ConfigMgr is the best tool for managing Windows -- by far -- but for MacOS, it's not even close and shouldn't even be considered.

  • If you are using Intune its easy to execute Office applications under LOB.

    If you are not using Intune and deploying Mac apps. It's tricky thing from SCCM.

    very first convert from .pkg/.mpkg or .app to .cmmac file which support with SCCM mac application.

    Create a mac application under SCCM. ( as usual normal app create, but select MAC OS X)
     Requirement and Detection method is most attention part. ( for office minimum 10/15GB of free space required so add this criteria in requirement & there will be a xml file each application with application add it as detection method.)

    Deploy it as usual windows deployment ( collection must be Mac machine)
