Sharepoint 2013 - Access Requests just not working at all RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I created a new Community Site and Sharing / Site requests were working fine for a few weeks.

A few days ago I changed the Site Members group to "Auto Accept" new requests.

Ever since then, "Sharing" no longer works.

A person can click the "Share" button, and after hitting the send button, a little pop-up shows the Owner was notified.  Unfortunately the owner is Not notified AND I also can't see any "Pending Access Requests" in the que.  What's even stranger is that I had a Pending one in the que from prior to changing the "Auto-Accept" setting on the group.

When I tried to "Decline" the request, it says it "Failed to Decline" request and so I can't get rid of it.  The only thing that does anything is Approving the request.

I am the Collection Admin so I don't think it's a permissions issue.

One other note is that I do receive email alerts when new topics are posted so I don't think we have a general email issue which is more common.

    Thanks for any advice!

    Mike

  • Take a look at installing the December 9th CU for SharePoint: http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2910938

Alternatively, you can install this single patch:

    http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2910943

One of the issues fixed in this patch is:

    • You cannot decline a user request by clicking the Decline button in a SharePoint 2013 community site, additionally, you may receive the following error message:
      Failed to decline request.

  • Whenever a new site collection gets provisioned new Access requests and invitations list are created (by default its hidden), the permissions are given only to the default owners group at the time that the Access Request list was created.  If this "XYZ user"  is not part of that owners group, then user will not able to see the pending request.

Site Collection Admins always have permissions for the Access Request List.

To resolve this try adding your account in Default Owners group of the site. Access http://<yourSharePointSite/_layout/15/permSetup.aspx page  and check for the default owners group of the site and add yourself in the group. Then you should be good to go. Thanks.

Please mark the same as answer if it helps you.Thanks.

  • Thanks for the reply Ketak,

I am the Site Collection Admin and have been since the site was created.   I also added myself into the Owners group to see if that worked and it also didn't solve the issue.

I don't think I mentioned it but I can see all the "History" of prior requests so it's definately not a permissions issue.

  • Hi Trevor,

Thanks for the link to the hot-fix.

Unfortunately our Admin has a policy of not implimenting any hot-fixes and waiting for Service Packs due to risk of issues.  Since I don't do his job I can't argue with his logic since we already have a lot of Sharepoint Issues related to the 2013 upgrade.

So I'll mark it as the answer until I can confirm.

    Thanks again for the help!

  • I am facing the same Issue. I can see the History requests but not the pending request as I am site owner with full control rights. Thanks for any advice!!
