Upgrade DPM 2016 to DPM 2019 RRS feed

  • Hi,

    We are planning to upgrade DPM 2016 to DPM 2019 but i need your support for the following upgrade scenario:

    - the current DPM 2016 is installed on windows server 2016 but we will install another windows server 2019 version on new hardware, can we backup dpm 2016 database and restore it on dpm 2019 ?

  • The procedure is more or less like this:

    1. Stop all backup jobs.
    2. Backup DPMDB.
    3. Shutdown the old server.
    4. Reset/Remove old DPM server AD account.
    5. Configure the new Windows Server 2019 so it matches the old server name and IP address.
    6. Install and configure the SQL server.
    7. Install DPM 2019.
    8. Restore DPM database.
    9. Reboot.
    10. Run the dpmsync -sync command.
    11. Run consistency checks.

    Yes you can back up and restore the DPM database, but you will need to use the same name for the new DPM server as on the old one.

  • Thanks Leon for you help, is there any post-upgrade tasks should be done except upgrade the agent ?
