Server Updates Without WSUS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear All,

We have a domain server and exchange server. The domain server is the WSUS server. The domain server is running windows server 2008 r2.  And the exchange server is running Windows Server 2012 standard. As you know the WSUS server is running in domain server (windows server 2008 r3) where it doesn't support updates for Windows server 2012. I would like to know how can I get updates to be done manually in the exchange server running in Windows server 2012 standard.

    Thanks in advance.

    1. WSUS is not domain based, so, domain WSUS server could serve non-domain joined clients; If you want to do so, then, in the Server 2012, please point the WSUS server to the 2008R2 server, in the registry key HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate, WUServer and WUStatusServer, make the URL to be http://x.x.x.x (x.x.x.x is the IP address of the WSUS server).

    2. WSUS server 2008R2 could provide updates for Server 2012, just check "Server 2012" in "Products and Classifications" in WSUS server, then sync and approve the updates for server 2012 on the WSUS server.

    Best Regards,

    Anne
