  • Hi,

there is no 32 bit for 2008 R2 Version. maybe you mean the 2008.

you can downgarde your Windows Server 2012 R2 64 bit to 2008 32 bit, but for this downgrade process you Needs to have the media + key product of 2008 Version.

    thanks

  • There is no Server 2008 R2 x86, there is a 2008 (non-R2) x86 version.

From the Windows Server 2012 Licensing and Pricing FAQ:

Q15. If I want to use the bits from an earlier version or edition, what are my options?

If you have Windows Server 2012 Datacenter edition you will have the right to downgrade your bits to any prior version or lower edition. If you have Windows Server 2012 Standard edition, you will have the right to downgrade your bits to any prior version of Enterprise, Standard or Essentials editions.

  • Hi,

Based on my experience, we cannot use the Windows Server 2012 license key to activate a Windows Server 2008 install.

In addition, which channel the windows server 2012 was purchased through? It seems that the media and product keys to downgrade are not provided although downgrade rights are granted since Microsoft only supplies bits and product keys to Volume License customers and only for certain versions and editions of the software.

I recommend you to contact the Licensing Activation Centers below for assistance:

  • Hi,

in my answer I mean the license key of 2008 and not of 2012: "but for this downgrade process you Needs to have the media + key product of 2008 Version".

in Volume licensing we have only the downgarde kits of N-2 (2012, 2008 R2). for previous Versions like 2008 he Needs to have on his organization or by his Partner or reseller the product media + product key.

    best regards
