Every Reboot, system does "Applying update operation # of ### (\Registry\...)" for 40 minutes.

  • Several of our servers started doing this recently. One of them does it every time the system reboots. It counts up until it reaches the number of updates listed (other servers are usually around 50,000). It does almost a thousand a minute, so in this example, it took 40 minutes to do this update.

All of our servers are 2008 R2, and they are all virtual machines running on multiple HP ProLiant DL380 G6's with XenServer.

Again, this wouldn't be a problem if it only happened once, but it happens frequently as of recent, and on one server, it happens after every reboot.

Any ideas on what's causing this?
