Access Azure File Share from a mobile phone RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey there,

We have recently started using Azure file share as our server. We would like people out in the field to be able to access files on the file share.

Basically in the same way you can use one drive from your phone or tablet but if we could do it with file share we can use the one thing to complete both tasks.

  • If you are mounting the file share, you can only use SMB and you need to use the storage account key. We have the Azure AD DS auth now for Azure Files, but it requires the client machine to be joined to AAD DS.  Clients outside of Azure will more than likely not be AAD DS joined so the need to use the storage account key

So, iOS recently announced SMB support on iPhones: https://9to5mac.com/2019/06/17/ios-13-beta-2-enables-smb-server-connectivity-in-the-files-app/

on Android you need to download a third-party app to get SMB support

I would recommend you to check the FAQ link which covers access options: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/files/storage-files-faq#security-authentication-and-access-control

AD joined clients will be supported very soon.
