  • Hi,

I don't quite understand your question. Correct me if I'm wrong, you have a higly available SQL Server that you would like to backup with DPM?

  • Hello!

I'm not sure I'm fully understanding your question as well.

    Is this your scenario?

You have a two (2) sites:

    1. Production
    2. Disaster Recovery.

You have a SQL database on both sites (Production & Disaster Recovery), and your goal is to have both SQL databases identical?

You won't be able to "mirror" or "synchronize" these databases with DPM, you can back them up either standalone SQL database node(s) or SQL database cluster.

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • How are your SQL database servers set  up? Sre they standalone or clustered?

Also what is the version and build information of your DPM and SQL Servers?

  • I still do not fully understand your deployment but I will give it a try. If you are currently backing up your SQL databases with DPM and you would like to enable mirroring of your SQL databases you need to stop the protection and recreate the protection group for mirrored databases.

This article is quite old, but it should help you anyway

  • you mean that i need to delete the current DPM's backup and start mirroring and then create a new protection group with new protection job on DPM ?

do i need to reinstall the DPM agent ?

  • If you already created the protection group (containing the SQL databases) while SQL Databases weren't mirrored, you will need do the following:

    1. Stop the protection of the SQL databases

    2. Re-add the SQL databases to the protection group.

There's no need to reinstall the DPM agents.

  • And don't forget to refresh SQL Server data source when adding back to Protection Group.
