SharePoint Newsfeed iOS app crashes to Home screen RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello!

We are having some trouble getting the SharePoint Newsfeed mobile app to work on iOS devices with our on-prem SharePoint 2013 instance. When users go to sign in, they enter their username, password, and URL (the URL has been verified as correct). When they tap the "Sign in" button, the app shows the "Loading..." screen for about a second, and then crashes to the Home screen. This is happening on all iOS devices we have tested it on, which span multiple versions of iOS 6, as well as iOS 7. However, the SharePoint Newsfeed mobile app works fine on Windows Phone 8 devices with our SharePoint instance. Has anyone else seen this problem or have any recommendations on how to resolve it?

    Thank you!

  • Hi siasmj,

Are you using the Kerberos authentication for your SharePoint?

I searched internally, and find that currently the Kerberos authentication is not supported with the SharePoint Newsfeed app on iOS devices, you need to use other authentications(e.g NTLM, FBA).

    Thanks

  • Hi Siasmj,

I have the exact same problem and I found that SharePoint Newsfeed won't work on Kerberos. As soon as I switch to NTLM, then it works fine.

    Hope this help

  • Hi siasmj,

Could you access SharePoint MySite from iOS browser?

Please check if you input the correct personal site URL (http/https) in your iOS SharePoint Newsfeed app.

Please also try removing and re-installing the SharePoint Newsfeed app from your iOS devices, and test again.

  • 1. Yes, MySite is accessible on Mobile Safari on all three iOS devices.

    2. The URL has been re-verified as correct on all three iOS devices. The app still crashes.

    3. The app was deleted and re-installed on all three iOS devices. The app still crashes.

  • We are using Kerberos for authentication, so this makes sense. I switched our development farm to NTLM, and the iOS Newsfeed app connects fine there. I wonder if the iOS Newsfeed app will be made to work with Kerberos.

  • Isn't Kerberos necessary for the search crawl?

  • Did anyone get this working already? We have an on premise SharePoint Server 2013 environment and the SharePoint Newsfeed app on Windows Phone but both the iPad and iPhone app are not working,
