Error when trying to remove disk from storage pool. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys

    DPM 2016. Latest update.

One of the disks in the storage pool died on us.
We moved all datasources to another disk.

According to the DMP Admin Console, the disk can now be removed (right click on disk, Remove)

However when we do this, we see the following error message:

Connection to the DPM service has been lost.
Review the application event log for information about a possible service shutdown.
Verify that the following services are not disabled:
      DPM
      DPM Replication Agent
      SQLAgent$MSSQLSERVER
      MSSQL$MSSQLSERVER
      Virtual Disk Service
      Volume Shadow Copy

In the eventlog the following events are logged:

    EventID 999
    ---------------------------------------
The description for Event ID 999 from source MSDPM cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

An unexpected error caused a failure for process 'msdpm'.  Restart the DPM process 'msdpm'.

  • house keeping - closing old post.

It looks like it crashed trying to remove alerts - I guess try inactivating any alerts associated with missing storage then try again.
