SharePoint 2013 on-premises workflow "This task is currently locked by a running workflow and cannot be edited" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

We have an application in SharePoint 2013 On-premises environment. It consists of many site collections.

Our site collections are using the Default SharePoint OOTB Approval workflows for approval.

In the recent time, many Approvers are facing the below error message frequently when trying to approve the task assigned to them.

"This task is currently locked by a running workflow and cannot be edited".

Due to this, we end the workflow and re-create the workflow.

The same was noted in other projects in different SharePoint On-premises environment as well.

Is this a issue in the SharePoint server? or Is this a known issue in the SharePoint 2013 environment OOTB workflows? Has Microsoft given any information on this issue?

Kindly assist me on this to get the issue resolved.

    Thanks,

    Subash V

  • Hi Subash V,

I have tested and confirmed that the default approval workflow is still working in SharePoint Server 2013.

Please note that if the task is overdue, you might run into this error and the task does not allow approval anymore. Check if the Due Date of the issued task is in the past, if yes, change it to a future date and test again.
