Feature was already activated at scope. No further action necessary for this feature. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm getting the following error when creating a subsite from a saved template:

Feature ... was already activated at scope ... No further action necessary for this feature.

The feature is a web feature and the scope is a site collection. My question is, how do some people still not see that SharePoint blows?

  • I really just wanted to know why sometimes there's blogs that aren't about SharePoint blows.

The error message says it didn't activate the feature because it was already activated at the site level so its not necessary don't worry about it. Usually the error messages don't try to make sense, but directly saying "f* you. I'm not doing it" is new for SharePoint. Is that what they upgraded in 2013?

Apparently web features don't work on templates created using "save site as template".

The solution is described in the link below and involves unpacking the wsp, removing garbage from feature tags in ONet.xml and repacking.

  • Hi,

Did you mean you could not create a new subsite?

    How about deactivate the feature?

You can also check the event log and ULS log to see if anything unexpected occurred.

To check event log, click the Start button and type “Event Viewer” in the Search box.

For SharePoint 2013, by default, ULS log is at

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS

You can check the ULS log by the methods here:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/opal/archive/2009/12/22/uls-viewer-for-sharepoint-2010-troubleshooting.aspx

    Thanks,

    Jason
