How to query time series data mining model from MDX? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, All.

We added a time series (forecasting) data mining model to an existing cube.

We would like to make a measure in this cube that would display us the result from this data mining model.

I know pretty well that data mining models are queried using separate DMX statements. But we would like to integrate it with the cube:  users would like to have a measure INSIDE THE CUBE named "Sales Forecast".  This calc should somehow go inside the DM model and get data from there.

One solution that I see is next: we can develop a stored procedure on C# which will accept parameters (e.g. current coordinate of region, FUTURE month, product category) and this C# stored procedure will open a separate connection (using AMO or ADOMD.NET) to the same cube, will run DMX query, get the result and pass it back.

This method definitely will work, but I don't like it.

Isn't it a way to make it simplier?

Aren't there any functions for interoperability between a cube and DM model - to query DM model from MDX?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Ihor.
