Import/Export user profile properties RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm somewhat confused by the import/export capabilities. I have read that you can not import/export the same property using User Profile Sync, which does make sense but my question is this...

Can I import a property from our HR database and then export that same property to our AD? This seems like it should be doable considering it's two separate connections. Import on the HR Connection, Export on the AD Connection.

Is this OK? I would REALLY like to import a lot of our HR specific properties such as Title, Office location, phone numbers, etc. Our AD is never accurate with that information.

    Thanks

  • Not out of the box, because the property can only be associated with a single connection.  This could be done with some development.

  • That kind of stinks...

Do you or anyone else know of any resources that would explain how to develop a solution that would work?

  • You would need to use the UserProfile and UserProfileManager classes to retrieve the profile information, and System.DirectoryServices.AccountManagement namespace to update the properties in Active Directory.
