SharePoint 2013 Document Drag & Drop - Doesn't work on Publishing pages once the page is published RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just tested out this behavior in our SP 2013 on-prem farm and wanted to share it in case someone else is seeing the same:

For publishing pages, as long as the page is checked-out or checked-in as draft, the drag & drop functionality works, however as soon as you publish the page, it breaks. I was able to confirm this with multiple libraries and multiple page types.

The only workaround I found was to use a web part page which doesn't use the versioning infrastructure and on this one drag & drop does work all the time.

Is it my environment or a known bug?

  • Hi, Roberto! Not sure if this is a good news or bad news, but you are not alone. :) I have the same issue, so it seems to be a bug. We tried the same thing on two different SharePoint 2013 environments (on premise), and the another one had the latest CU:s installed. On both environments drag and drop only worked, when the page was published as draft, not as a major version.

Thanks for the workaround tip, though! I might try web part page as well while waiting for Microsoft to fix this issue or to give us some advice, how we could fix it ourselves.

  • Hi there,

I've exactly the same problem and it's not linked to the web browser I use (tryed IE 9 and 10, Firefox and Chrome). In fact, here is what I've noticed.

The drag and drop feature works for the web part and list applications. I can easily add a file to shared documents for example.

I'm creating a new Wiki page in my Wiki web part, in Sharepoint Foundation 2013. Then, I begin to write some text and I want to add a picture. I'm doing then a drag & drop operation to insert the picture from my local hard drive. In the first place, the picture is normally displayed on my page layout, but at the time I save my work, the image disappear !

And if I go check the raw source code, I see an empty img tag : <img alt=""/> surrounded with <p> tag. So it creates the structure but doesn't upload the file, nor add the link src.

The only way I found to display pictures so far was using Sharepoint Designer, and uploading manually my images, then on the top ribbon : Insert > Picture > From an address and pasting the image url in the field. It's slow and uneffective, please could someone provide me a hint or some help ?

    Thanks in advance.
