DPM 2012 R2 does not back up SQL 2014 transaction logs RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

a few weeks ago I configured a protection group to back up an SQL 2014 database and all looked great - until I noticed that transaction logs were growing. Unfortunately the recovery model was set to simple.

I followed the steps Dwayne Jackson II described here.

    • changed recovery model to full
    • removed database from protection group
    • added database to protection group again
    • set synchronization frequency to one hour

    But still the same problem:

    • transaction logs are not backed up
    • the incremental backup option in DPM is greyed out
    • there are no jobs visible for SQL server agent
    • but express full backups are successfull

    Any help very very appreciated.

  • Hello!

Which build version (Update Rollup) is your DPM 2012 R2 and what version (Service Pack) is your SQL Server 2014?

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • Thank you, it seems DPM 2012 R2 does not officially support SQL Server 2014 SP2, according to the official documents only the following are supported:

    • SQL Server 2014 with SP1, 2014

Normally when a version isn't listed it means that it's not supported, but it's worth nothing that this is also an old documentation that isn't being updated anymore.

Although the documentation was last updated 4 August 2017 and SQL Server 2014 SP2 came out July 11, 2016.
