DPM 2012 R2 with SQL 2016? RRS feed

  • Question

  • One of my customers currently run DPM 2012 R2 on a SQL Server 2008 R2. They want to upgrade to DPM 2016, but first I need to upgrade the present SQL version to 2016. My first question - is it possible to do it in just one step?
The second one - does DPM 2012 R2 even work with SQL Server 2016? Or do I need to first upgrade to SQL Server 2014, then upgrade DPM to 2016 and finally upgrade SQL to 2016?

  • Hello Jaan,

DPM 2012 R2 doesn't support SQL Server 2016 for hosting DPM database, but it does support SQL Server 2014 with Update Rollup 6 installed.

So you should first install the latest update rollup for DPM 2012 R2 (currently UR14), then upgrade your SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2014, upgrade DPM Server, then upgrade SQL Server to 2016.

    Hope this helps
