convert .eml email to .msg format in SharePoint RRS feed

    Hi,

    We have started using email enabled libraries in our SharePoint site and have realised that the messages are coming through in .eml. Since we use exchange and outlook 2007 the email that gets delivered into the library cannot be viewed in Outlook 2007 without tweaking the regsirty.

    Is there a way that the emails that get delivered into the library can be .msg format?

    Im not really even sure where to even start looking for the solution but it appears programming with an email event handler might be the place to start.

    Any thoughts would be much appreciated

    Hi there,

    When the email is added to the list, is should fire the ItemAdding event.  In this event, you would need to call the conversion code (whether you build this or buy it from someone, but it is not an out of the box api).

    The posts above have helped me understand this a little better but i'm still stuck on how the email event handler will drop a .msg type file into the library. I have started looking at II6 and something in there might let me convert the msg to the .msg format, but that is looking unlikely.

    I know I'm late on this, but...

    I strongly recommend not using the MSG file format because it imposes a couple of limitations. Here's a quite extensive article why MSG files are bad: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/stephen_griffin/archive/2008/01/08/no-msg-for-you.aspx.

    And to quote the most important part:

    Instead you can configure Outlook 2007 (if you happen to run Office 2007 Service Pack 2) to open EML files directly as described in this MSKB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956693. That way you do not need to change anything on the SharePoint side.
