Where can I find a list of icons and their meaning used on the Site Content and Structure screen

    Question

  • So many different icons are use in Site Content and Structure.  It would be nice to a reference as to what each means.  When I mouse over the icons the text is not helpful  often only "list" is given.

    Thanks,

    Pat

  • Hi Pat,

I don’t know which icons you cannot understand the meaning. Basically, you use the Site Content and Structure page to manage both the content and structure of your SharePoint site collection. When you change the structure of the site, that change will be carried through to the site navigation. You can manage content by performing other actions on lists and list items. For example, check out or check in, publish, and copy items. Although I can’t find such list to explain the meaning of those icons, I think the document below can help you understand the function of “Site Content and Structure” better then you will know the meaning of each icon.

Work with site content and structure

    Hope this helps.

  • Typically meaningless response to a perfectly reasonable question - just because you know what the icons mean doesn't mean that everyone else does!!

In 'site content' the icons have changed and been added to in different versions with little or no explanation from MS as to what the changes actually mean in detail. E.G. What on earth is the actual difference between the the icons for subsites (I'm assuming that's what the blue box with something sticking out of the side is BUT CAN'T BE SURE BECAUSE THERE SEEMS TO BE NO REFERENCE GUIDE) and the other 'site' icon that looks like a screen with a directory structure beneath it (that I'm guessing are 'site collections'?). If there's no documentation how am I or anyone else meant to guess this stuff? Just because it's an icon doesn't mean it's naturally intuitive.

I've been using (or should I say 'wrestling unsuccessfully with') SharePoint since 2004 and I can't just guess....

All unprofessional stuff, this is not the way to support a complex product - even the link doesn't work!
