PowerShell 5.1 Desired State Configuration - ConfigurationModeFrequencyMins less than 15 minutes RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I want to know if LCM ConfigurationModeFrequencyMins property value limit of 15 minutes is still valid or it can be set to for instance 10 minutes? PowerShell version on all "managed" systems is 5.1.

    Thank you in advance.

  • Lowest value is not mentioned, just default one. I had read this before I posted a question. In many articles/books I found 15 minutes is as low as we can go but just want to be absolutely sure.

  • Then you didn't really read the link.

    ConfigurationModeFrequencyMins = 10

    ConfigurationModeFrequencyMins

    UInt32

How often, in minutes, the current   configuration is checked and applied. This property is ignored if the   ConfigurationMode property is set to ApplyOnly. The default value is 15.

  • Ok, no point of arguing here with anyone. ConfigurationModeFrequencyMins keyword is mentioned only once in this document as you copied where it is clearly written default value is 15 without information about the lowest possible value we can use.

  • What have you tried?  What are you expecting.  An int32 can be anywhere from 0 to [int32]::MaxValue.  Checcking too oftwn is a bad idea.  15 minutes is likely the minimum practical value.  A scan once a minute is not likely to gain much although ay changes to the DSCs would be applied sooner.

I pasted your exact question into my searcher and this is what popped up:

    https://powershell.org/forums/topic/minimum-values-for-configurationmodefrequencymins-and-refreshfrequencymins/

Don Jones and Dave Wyatt masters at DSC and have written many blogs and books.  They reference the WMF 5 release notes which has a fairly detailed explanation of the configuration commands.  Read the short topic carefully for other nuggets.

  • I can also suggest that, if you are going to get into deep cases, get the following book to learn and as a reference.

  • Very helpful...the link is now dead and this thread is top google result when you search for ConfigurationModeFrequencyMins lowest or ConfigurationModeFrequencyMins less/under than 15.

You could have been helpful and provided contents of the information from get go but nope had to be smart about it first and told off someone to search.

Any two year old link is likely to be dead.  The answer was for the immediate question and not intended for consumption by other years later.  This is the nature of technology.  We don't accept answers about the technology of the Dark Ages for the same reason.

You need to adjust your expectations of technical material to be contemporary and not require an archaeological quest by others.

Also note that the page not found gives links to the same information.  Take more time to read the details.  It will save you much time.
