windows 2012 license with hyper-v

hello,

i have two physical windows server 2008 r2 i covert them to vhd and i want to use windows 2012 standard hyper-v

as i see windows 2012 standard come with two free activation for hyper-v but is it work on windows 2008 r2 ? or i should get to licensee for virtual both server ? mean 1 for win2012 and two for 2008r2

You can downgrade your "virtual" licenses, see:

Understanding downgrade rights

Downgrade Rights Explained

As there is no license key downgrade you need an 2008R2 Media/Key combination from the same channel, e. g. 2012 from OEM -> 2008R2 from OEM. Then you can just take your 2008R2 Media/Key to activate your 2008R2 servers.

Hi Amin El-Zein,

AFAIK, if you have a Windows Server 2012 Standard licence, you can create two virtual instances of Windows Server and these could be Windows Server 2008 R2 without problems.
