How to update a wsus server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a WSUS environment with 1 Master (2012r2) and 4 Replicas (3 2008r2, 1 2012r2). What is the process for updating the WSUS servers, not in terms of MS updates but the actual WSUS server modules, cab files etc. Excuse the lack of detail still trying to wrap my head around the concepts.

  • Hi dvua,

If you mean WSUS server version, then I would suggest install the following KB for new installed WSUS server:

    1. For WSUS server 2012R2, please install KB 3095113 and KB3159706:

Update to enable WSUS support for Windows 10 feature upgrades

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3095113

Update enables ESD decryption provision in WSUS in Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3159706

Note, after install KB3159706, we need to do manual steps, otherwise, WSUS will crash, see detailed information in the above KB

    2. For WSUS server 2008R2, I would suggest install KB 2938066 to upgrade it to the latest version 3.2.7600.274

An update to harden Windows Server Update Services

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/kb/2938066

Besides, for server system, ensure it has installed the latest updates.

    Best Regards,

    Anne
