  • For the first issue, try to find the correlation ID in the ULS logs.  For the second issue, have you configured User Profile Synchronization?

  • For the first issue, I can find the correlation ID in the ULS logs, but I cannot find the root cause and solution.

  • For this issue, it looks like your SharePoint server(s) have been patched with MS13-052.  Uninstall it and reboot.  Here is a relevant TechNet thread:

  • In case anybody else runs into a similar problem with SharePoint 2013 running on Windows Server 2012:

This same problem exists but presents itself a bit differently.  You basically just get the Error: Technical Difficulties page when, say, trying to add a SharePoint link using the browse method.  It doesn't always error out either.

Relevant log entries show up like so:

List does not exist.  The page you selected contains a list that does not exist.  It may have been deleted by another user.

Application error when access /_layouts/15/AssetPortalBrowser.aspx, Error=Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

The solution, like others have shown with other server versions was to uninstall a specific KB.

This post is to clarify that the KB to uninstall is: KB2844289
