  • Question

  • Hello,

Not sure if this the right place or not. I'm looking at ways to manage our IT inventory (PC,Monitors,Printers, etc..) I want to track and inventory through its entire life cycle.

I've looked at cierson, provance and even MDOP AIS. I really like the idea of the first two. But I don't really have the budget.

Is long term management of assets not part of MOF? How does Microsoft recommend doing it. What are you guys using to achieve this goal?

    Thanks.

  • Our customers are using the solutions of Cireson or Provance. No one tried to create a custom solution by himself.

I am not aware of any plan at Microsoft to provide a similar feature in the near future.

    Hope this helps.

  • In addition, System Center 2012 Configuration Manager hardware inventory reads information about devices by using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).  You can enable and disable WMI classes, and add new classes to collect by hardware inventory by using client settings.

  • Hey

We build multiple Asset Management Solutions from scratch for customers because of very specific. Depending on your SCSM dev skills and exact requirements this works fine. Steve Beaumont build a free community Asset Management solution that can be downloaded here > http://www.systemcenter.ninja/2010/12/asset-management-service-manager.html-. I never tried it out myself and dont know if this works with SCSM 2012/R2. Give it a try.

    Cheers
    Marcel
