SQL Express 2008 Command Line Options

  • I am using the following cmdline option with SQLEXPR_x86_ENU.exe in a c# code and it is throwing an error. The same expression works ok with sql Express 2005.

                                  szParam = " /qb" + " ADDLOCAL=SQL_Engine,SQL_Data_Files INSTANCENAME=TEST101 SAPWD=" + G_STRSQLUSERPASSWORD + " SQLAUTOSTART=1 SECURITYMODE=SQL SQLCOLLATION=" + strSQLCollation + " DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0 SQLACCOUNT=" + "\"" + strSQLAccount + "\"" + " INSTALLSQLDIR=" + "\"" + G_SELECTED_SQLDIR + "\"";

    Error message:-

    TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure.

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:

The syntax of argument "/QB" is incorrect. Either the delimiter '=' is missing or there is one or more space characters before the delimiter '='. Please use /? to check usage.

    Error code 0x84B40001.

What is the corrected cmdline for 2008 sql express installation?

  • I tried the "/qs" option instead of '/qb'. I did not get the previous error reported. However it did not create a SQL instance of our database. During the installation I noticed a DOS window with some messages but was not able capture those. So, are there any options that need to be changed for 2008 SQL?

  • Do you still use this one for the install of SQL Express 2008?

You can try ADDLOCAL=SQL, Tools to see if it is working.

Install comand lines between 2005 and 2008 are little bit different. Smile

  • Thanks, I've tried this and able to install silently successfully.

Now, if I want to uninstall silently while uninstalling my product, How shall I do this/

I'm trying to install/uninstall SQL Server 2008 Express using InstallShield for Windows Vista and XP.

  • Are you using Installshield while installing SQL Server 2008?

I'm trying to install silently SQL Server 2008 Express by using command line in Installshield.

Also, Do you know how to unintall silently in Installshield?

Did you declare "szParam" under the database.rul?

    Please reply ASAP.
