  • Hi Andykm.Wong,

If you want to publish Power BI desktop reports to your SSRS report server (hosting Power BI reports in your on-premises SSRS Server), currently it is only allowed to use SQL Server Analysis Service Live connection as the data source and nothing else. You could refer to Power BI On-Premises; Hello World!

If your purpose is to make Power BI available for on-premises data sources, then gateway is necessary. The Power BI Gateway acts as a bridge, providing secure data transfer between the Power BI service and on-premises data sources that support refresh.

Here is an official article explaining the principle of BI gateway and whether you need to install it: Power BI Gateway- Personal.

And to install BI gateway, please refer to On-premises data gateway.

If you still have issues pertaining to Power BI gateway, I suggest you could raise a ticket on Power BI Forum.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,
