ODBC Data Source, SQL Native Client RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to create an ODBC Data Source. I was able to create one to one machine so I know how to do it in general, but for this particular machine, I am not able to.

From the machine where I am trying to create the ODBC Data Source, I am able to ping the machine name and its IP address. I tried using both the machine name and the IP address in the "Server" property of the SQL Native Client Data Source, and went through the wizard, but at the end when you hit "Test Data Source", it comes back failed.

Any ideas why I am not able to create this Data Source?

  • Hi,

You can verify your port state by using TELNET command.

    ex: telnet <servername> 1433

    telnet \\remoteserver 1433

    All the best

  • I think it's because the default port 1433 isn't open. I need to wait for my network guy tmrw to verify this.
