SQL Server 2012 Failover Cluster new instance RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am new to SQL Server 2012 clustering.

I added a new instance to one of the two nodes.

When I try to move it to the other node it fails.

Do I need to install it on both?

If so, what options do you install on the second node?

    Thanks.

  • Whenever you installed your new instance, which option did you choose from your installation media?

You should have chosen New SQL Server Failover clusteri installation. If you didnt do that uninstall your standalone instance and, re-install using the option above and you will be able to add the node2 to your clustered instance

  • Controll Panel -> Program and Features -> Select your installed instance, right click and select UnInstall.

    Follow the wizzard to completion

    Hope this helps

  • Yes you do need to add the clustered instance on both nodes.

    Proces goes like this:

    1. Install new failover cluster instance on Node1. - Goes through entire setup process to configure a clustered instance.

    2. on Node 2 of you WFC run Add FailoverCluster Node option from the insall package. - this will install required binaries on node 2 for your clustered instance to failover to node 2.

    3. If you have more than 2 nodes repleat process of adding a node on additional nodes.

    Hope this helps
