Migrating/Upgrading Reporting Services RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

In existing System, we have 2 boxes one for SQL Server 2008 R2 and other for SharePoint 2010. Reporting Services is in SharePoint mode.

Now, We are migrating/upgrading SQL server and SharePoint. There are boxes as below

SQL Server 2016 has been installed in new box
SharePoint 2016 has been installed in new box

The issues we are facing are:

    1) Reporting Services is not available in SharePoint central admin
    2) By mistake Reporting Services installed in Native mode (How to change this to SharePoint Mode)

Please help me to resolve the above issues.

  • Hi SqlShan,

    1. Reporting Services is not available in SharePoint central admin.

If you don't see the Reporting Service in the SharePoint central admin. It means that the Reporting Services service has not been registered. To register your SSRS SharePoint Service, you can try following steps:

->Open the SharePoint 2013/2016 Management Shell with administrator privileges. Right click the icon and click, "Run As Administrator". Run the following three cmdlets from the shell:

    A: Install-SPRSService

    B: Install-SPRSServiceProxy

    C: Get-SPServiceInstance -all |where {$_.TypeName -like "SQL Server Reporting*"} | Start-SPServiceInstance

->Verify the Reporting Services Service shows status as “Started” on the page: SharePoint 2013/2016 Central Administration -> "Application Management" -> "Manage Services on Server"

For more details, please refer: Troubleshoot a Reporting Services Installation

    2. By mistake Reporting Services installed in Native mode (How to change this to SharePoint Mode)

To switch SSRS native mode to SharePoint integrated mode. You should first go to Reporting Service Configuration Manager to change the Report Server mode to SharePoint Integrated mode. Then go to SharePoint Central Administrator to set the SSRS.

For more details, please refer: How to Switch from SSRS Native Mode to SharePoint Integrated Mode

If you still have any questions, please feel free to ask.

    Thanks,
    Xi Jin.

  • Hi Xi Jin,

Can you please tell whether the above steps is possible in SQL server 2016. Because, we don't have option to select Reporting Server Mode in Change Database screen.

Also, Can you please help me on below query:

For Form Based Authentication SharePoint application, is really required SSRS SharePoint integrated mode or using Native mode can we access reports through Form Based Authentication SharePoint application.
