Can I use MSSQL Developer Edition for free to configure and demonstrate in any ETL tool? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can I use MSSQL Developer Edition for free to configure as db source for ETL product demonstration to confirm that the ETL tool can pull data from MSSQL DB for further transformation?

Would there be any restriction on that free usage license.

    Thanks

Does one have to be a member of Visual Studio Dev Essentials members in order to download the free version.

Anyone can download, install and get started with MS SQL Developer edition.

From Licensing document  (Check out page - 31)

SQL Server Developer Edition SQL Server 2017 Developer Edition is a fully featured version of SQL Server software—including all the features and capabilities of Enterprise Edition—licensed for development, test and demonstration purposes only. SQL Server Developer Edition may not be used in a production environment or with commercial data. Any test data that was used for design, development or test purposes must be removed prior to deploying the software for production use

  • You can use the Developer edition for your testing/demo purpose. Just that this edition should not be used in Production environment.

And this is a question in general.

Suppose customer has MSSQL and they are looking for ETL solution from an ISV or via a partner solution.

If the ISV or partner wants to show the customer of a ETL solution that can be configured with MSSQL , can the partner or ISV download the developer edition and use for demonstration without breaching the license policies.

    Thanks

  • Yes I have checked this document already, but since end of the demo may have a commercial implication with MSSQL and ETL integration, which created some doubt as to whether it can be used for the demo..

    Thanks
