sccm 2016 running on shared instance SQL server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been trying to find setup documents for installing SCCM 2016 on a shared SQL 2012 Instance, but cannot find anything.
First off, is this even going to work?
If yes, how do you setup this up.

I've already deployed SCCM 1702 using a Non Shared instance, but now require to use a Shared instance due to licensing.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here.?

I have everything setup on a 2016 server, I just do not know how to setup the DB now on a single Instance "Default" as it's own DB with security.

    thanks in Advance,

  • through two different sites I managed to figure this out.

You need to open up SQL manager, go into the named instance and remove all the Dynamic ports, make sure there is nothing in there. Then add your new port number, I chose 8484 and put it in every place where an IPAddress is under TCP port.
Make sure you also put that in the IPALL

the last thing you need to do is create an ALIAS use the same port, and name your alias the name of your instance. This took a long time to figure out, hopefully this will come in useful for someone else.
