DISM Error 1726


  • Receive the following error when running:

    C:\Windows\system32>call Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 6.3.9600.17031

    Error: 1726

    The remote procedure call failed.

    You can use Process Explorer to help find the cause of your issue here.  In this thread, a user having the same issue used it successfully to narrow down the responsible programs, which turned out to be locking the dxgi.dll file.  Upon exiting those programs, the user was able to successfully run the DISM command.

    The help file contained in the Process Explorer download contains more information on operation and usage.

    How?  I can imagine ProcMon helping with this but not ProcExp.  Ditto for the thread you found.  I suspect there could have been a typo there.  Otherwise, would they have been using the Find tool somehow (e.g. finding handles in use)?  Then perhaps ResMon could be used in the same way?  Then another SysInternals tool on that tack would be  Handle.exe  but again, I'm not sure how it would have to be used to diagnose this case.
