how to make the updates installation notification popup quickly in SCCM client.

    Question

  • Hi,
I have a big problem about the the updates installation notification popup.

in my WindowsUpdate.log, it tell me that "updates found =1", it seems this client need this update, but this computer  do not  popup the installation notification after waiting long time.
does there has a solution to make the notification popup quickly, so I can install it  immediately.

on my SCCM server, I have deployed the software updates successfully.  I select this option "allow display notifications on clients" when I deploy this update.

on my sccm client machine, I have done the right configuration setting in group policy

the WindowsUpdate.log after click on "initiate action" in Configuration Manager Properties

  • I have fixed my problem. please note below configuration when you create a deploy update package:
1, select the "local time" not UTC time
2, select "as soon as possible"

  • The deploy package properties setting under deployment management in SCCM server  is below:
download settings: do not install software updates
display/time settings: allow display notifications on clients
    schedule: as soon as possible
other settings I think will not impact the popup notification.

The client local group setting is below:
Specifies  intranet Microsoft Update service location   "enabled", the location is the sccm server.
Configure Automatic Updates "enabled" ,   the select option is: 2 = Notify before downloading any updates and notify again before installing them.
Automatic updates detection frequency "enabled", the frequency value is 1 hour
allow signed updates from an intranet Microsoft update service ..... "enabled"
allow non-administrators to receive update notifications "enabled"

I have some clients which have the same settings, some of them popup the notification within 1hour, some will wait 1 days or long time. These clients get the updates from the same SCCM server.

  • Hi stefan,
I think my configuration setting is right, I deploy a update today, and client will popup this update after one day, it is too slow.  Does there is solution to make it quickly.

  • Hi,

You don't need to specify the GPO settings as they will be controlled by ConfigMgr. I suggest you remove the GPO and test once again to see if that has any positive effect.

  • Hi Kent,
I has removed the GPO settings configured by myself and just leave below configuration in GPO:
Specifies  intranet Microsoft Update service location   "enabled", the location is the sccm server.
allow signed updates from an intranet Microsoft update service ..... "enabled"

and it still popup the installation dialog box after almost  one day. Is there any setting I missed?

  • I have the same issue. The existing clients get the updates the same day but the new clients moving in face the delay which is unreasonably long. WSUS implementation I had earlier presented an update shield real quick.
