DNS 2008/R2 Resolution Time Alert & DNS 2008/R2 Server Responsiveness Alert

    Question

  • Hi all,

I've got a problem I'm trying to diagnose in SCOM 2007 R2 and the Windows 2008 R2 DNS Management pack v6.0.7000.0.

After installing the management pack as per instructions (enabling proxy agent discovery on all the domain controllers/dns servers), I keep getting 2 errors.  These errors are coming from multiple domain controllers, but they seem to be regional domain controllers.

Critical Error 1: DNS 2008/R2 Resolution Time Alert

Warning Error 2: DNS 2008/R2 Server Responsiveness Alert

When going into Health Explorer, I can see the DNS 2008/R2 Server Responsiveness monitor is in a warning state, and the DNS 2008/R2 Resolution Time Alert monitor is in a critical state.   Under the State Change Events tab, the "BestTime" and "WorstTime" for the resolution time monitor is 0 seconds.  I can see that the default "Threshold Seconds" in the management pack is 1 second.  When monitoring "Local Time Resolution" of the server, nothing takes longer than 0.6 seconds to resolve.

As a test, I created an override, and tried 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 90 seconds and even 1000 seconds just to see if I could make it so the monitor doesn't trigger - but I've had no success yet.  Everytime I reset the health, next time the script runs (which is every 15min), it triggers the montiors and throws an alert.

Has anybody come across this issue before?  I've seen a few posts on the internet that this was a problem with the previous version of the management pack with Windows 2008/R2 - but from what I've read it is suppose to be fixed in the current version I'm using.

Any ideas?  I'd rather not disable the monitor but it is an option if there is no fix for this.

    Thanks in advance,

    Noel.
