We have an SCCM 2007 R3 SP2 environment. I am working on a project where I would like to pre-populate an SCCM client record and place it in a collection. However, in my attempts, I am able to prepopulate the SCCM client record (using MAC address
as the unique identifier) but when the REAL SCCM client comes online, a NEW SCCM record is created in the database.
Reason I want to do this: I'm using VMware tools to actually deploy the OS (and not SCCM OSD). I want to prestage the client record and place it in a collection. This collection will have a task sequence advertised to it. I am hoping
that when the OS is deployment and the SCCM client is installed, the client will automatically find itself in the "software deployment" collection... and start to install software via a task sequence.
Is this possible? Or am I approaching this the wrong way in SCCM?
