Can't install VMM Agent on Hyper-V Host RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I try to install the SCVMM 2012 SP1 agent on a host server from SCVMM it fails with the following. The Server is running Server 2008 R2 with SP1 and I have 8 other servers that have installed without issue. They are all on the same domain.

    Error (2916)

VMM is unable to complete the request. The connection to the agent svrname was lost.

WinRM: URL: [http://svrname:80], Verb: [ENUMERATE], Resource: [http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/cimv2/Win32_OperatingSystem], Filter: []

    Unknown error (0x80338126)

    Recommended Action
Ensure that the WS-Management service and the agent are installed and running and that a firewall is not blocking HTTPS traffic.

This problem can also be caused by WMI service crash. Ensure that KB 982293 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982293) is installed on the machine if it is running Windows Server 2008 R2.

If the error persists, reboot svrname and then try the operation again.

If I try to install vmmagent.msi locally it tells me

If I look in the Event Viewer I see the following

Product: Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager Agent (x64) -- Error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action GetAllIPAddresses, entry: GetAllIPAddresses, library: C:\Users\ADMINI~1.ADM\AppData\Local\Temp\2\MSI8F36.tmp

  • are you running the agent installation from the VMM setup media? you would require the entire setup as many of the DLL will be missing if only running the -msi package.

have you verified that the firewall is not blocking traffic on the host, and that winrm is running?

  • I got the agent installed yesterday by installing from the setup media as you suggested.

When I try to refresh Host I get the following error

    Error (2916)
VMM is unable to complete the request. The connection to the agent hyperv1.admin.expeed.local was lost.

WinRM: URL: [http://hyperv1.admin.expeed.local:80], Verb: [INVOKE], Method: [GetVersion], Resource: [http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/scvmm/AgentManagement]

If the error persists, reboot hyperv1.admin.expeed.local and then try the operation again.

I have tested the connectivity between the two servers using every test that I've found on these forums and they all pass happily.

  • Can anyone shed any light on this error? This server is still not connecting.

  • Be sure to install from the .exe, not the .msi.  That is what worked for me.

  • Where can I download Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager Agent (x64).

I am converting some of my servers over to VM's and they are on a Workgroup.

I have the SCVMM SP1 Evaluation version running fine. That was the VHD install.

I can connect to all computer on domain, but no computers off domain because it says that I need to run MSVMM Agent from media.

    HELP - PLEASE

  • Hi, you cannot download it unless you have a MSDN/Technet subscription

the agent installation is shown when you run the full setup for VMM

  • Will I have to uninstall SCVMM and reinstall. Or can it be run from a setup disk ?

  • No need to uninstall SCVMM, it can be selected in the installation Wizard or you can search for the setup file on the setup disk.

  • RESOLVED

ANSWER: Setup Host using " Untrusted Domain".

DO NOT INSTALL ANY AGENT ON HOST - LET SCVMM DO THE WORK !!

    This was the solution.

VM's created on workgroup, testing to resume.
