  • Hi,

Did you run the setup as an Administrator? This relates probably to some AppLocker or other security settings.

Can you please check if there are some events, related to the behavior under the "System" or "Application" event log? Did you try to restart the server and check again?

    Regards,

  • Hi,

First of all make sure you meet all the system requirements for SCOM 2016:

System requirements for System Center Operations Manager
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/scom/system-requirements?view=sc-om-2016

How are you running the installation?

Is the media extracted and you've run the setup.exe locally or remotely?

Did you run it as administrator?

Please check the SCOM setup logs for any more information.

    Setup log location:

    • %LocalAppData%\SCOM\Logs

    Setup log:

    • OpsMgrSetupWizard.log (Reports activity and progress of setup wizard. (Detailed logging of specific features is available in logs listed below.)

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • If you have any antivirus or any other policies that may be blocking, check those as well.

  • Where is your installation media stored?

It may also be corrupted, can you try re-downloading the SCOM 2016 ISO and extract it to the server you are trying to install SCOM 2016 on?

  • Hi Ahmed,

What is the system language on the affected computer? Is it the same as the working one? Did we try to restart the computer and reinstall it to see if it is working. Please check the above information and if there's anyupdate, please let us know.

    Best regards.

    Crystal

  • I've already had similar issues with unzipped isos. Did you try mounting it instead?

  • Or unzipping it with a different tool/to a different location?

  • Any major differences between this (problematic) server and your other server where the installation worked?

Did you try rebooting the server?

  • To get a better understanding, could you please describe all the steps you take in detail?

    Please also answer the following:

    • Where is your installation media located? (locally / remotely)
    • Did you mount the ISO before running the SC2016_SCOM_EN.EXE to extract the SCOM 2016 installation media?
    • Where did you extract the SCOM 2016 installation media? Is it located somewhere where you have full access to?
    • How are you running the setup.exe for the SCOM 2016 installation?
    • What user are you running the installation with (domain user / local user)
    • Does the user have local administrator privileges on the server you are running the installation on?

The extracted "SC 2016 RTM SCOM" folder should be 1,17GB in size and contain 593 Files, 49 Folders.

  • Have you tried running the latest version of .NET Framework? This can happen when if you have an older version or depending on what OS you are running. Long as its at least Windows Server 2012 should be ok.

Could try launching it in a compatibility mode.

Do any other installation medias show the same. Maybe could try running something like an SCCM, SCORCH or SCSM as a test. Wonder if its really the .hta thats causing issues on your machine

  • Hi Ahmed,

Try to run SCOM setup with other version like 1801, 1807 and see if the result is the same on the affected server. If it is the same, the issue is with OS. Try to rebuild the OS server to see if it is working.

    Hope the information can help.

    Best regards.

    Crystal
