Incremental OID

    Question

  • Good evening everyone

I try to compose management pack to monitor several network printers via SNMP. Unfortunately, every time device updates its status, status OID changes (for example, 1.3.6.1.2.1.43.18.1.1.6.1.1488).

How can I get this value for monitoring?

  • I was expecting some entries under 1.3.6.1.2.1.43.18.1.1.1, which are supposed to be alert indexes according to the MIB I found (prtAlertIndex)... Too bad.

What you could do is a scripted snmp monitor, but that would require some serious authoring.

    High-level script logic :

    - get the whole SNMP table in an array

    - find every distinct last OID digit, so you know your alert indexes

    -  go back in the array to find the values you need for each alert, apply whatever logic you like and output it as a property bag
