Remote Desktop crashes when vorbis.acm is present (Win 8.1 x64) RRS feed

  • Question

  • When connected to a remote system and that system plays audio, the remote desktop client crashes (modern ui and desktop clients), when vorbis.acm is present in C:\Windows\System32.

In my case the vorbis codec is being installed and is required by FL Studio.

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro x64. The problem goes away if I rename the file (there is also a vorbis.acm in SysWOW64, but that does not cause any problems).

Below is what shows in event viewer.

  • Hi,

It seems that vorbis.acm is not compatible with mstsc in 64-bit machines. The workaround is disable the Audio in the mstsc setting when remote.

However, if Audio is necessary when remoting, I would like to suggest you consult Image-Line support.

    Thanks.

  • Rename your c:\Windows\System 32\vorbis.acm to another name, for example, to vorbis2.acm
